Adding videos and media into a Brightspace course is a great way to increase student engagement and to include dynamic content. Kaltura media can be inserted anywhere the HTML browser appears in Brightspace, such as in Announcements, the Course Details section, and in module/sub-module description text areas.

How do I upload videos to MediaSpace?

You can embed media into your Brightspace course in the following places:

WARNING! Embedding too many videos (4 or 5) or very long videos in one course page can cause the course to load slowly for students with slow internet connections.

Adding Kaltura Videos to a Module or Submodule

  1. Log in to Brightspace with your MyCarletonOne credentials.
  2. Click on your course tile or find your course in the course selector icon.
  3. Click Content in the course navbar.
  4. Click on a Module in the Table of Contents menu to open it.
  5. Below the Module title, click the Add a description area and the editor toolbar will open.
  6. From the editor toolbar, select the Insert stuff icon.

  1. From the options which appear, scroll down and click Insert MediaSpace.
  2. Once your Kaltura MediaSpace opens, find the video you wish to insert and click
  3. After clicking Embed, a window will display allowing you to preview the video selected.
  4. If the video is the correct one, click the Insert
  5. Then, click Update on the HTML area to save your work. Your video should now appear in the description area of the module/submodule.

Adding Kaltura Videos via Create a File

  1. Log in to Brightspace with your MyCarletonOne credentials.
  2. Click on your course link.
  3. Click Content in the course navbar.
  4. Click the Module you wish to go to.
  5. Click the Web Page you wish to add the video to.
  6. Once the page opens, click Edit HTML on the bottom of the screen to enable the editor toolbar.
  7. From the editor toolbar, select the icon Insert stuff.

  2. After clicking Embed, a window will display allowing you to preview the video selected.
  3. If the video is the correct one, click the button
  4. Then, click Save and Close on the bottom of the page to save your work.

Adding Kaltura Videos via the Existing Activities Button

  1. Log in to Brightspace with your MyCarletonOne credentials.
  2. Click on your course link.
  3. Click Content in the course navbar.
  4. Click the Module you wish to go to.
  5. Click Existing Activities and select Insert MediaSpace.

  1. Once your Kaltura MediaSpace opens, find the video you wish to insert and click

Warning: This mode of inserting videos keeps the original video title, but you can change it on Brightspace once the video is embedded. To change the video title, click the video you just embedded and once the page opens, click the chevron next to the video title and select Edit Title. Type the new name and click enter.

Embedding a Downloadable Player

The Downloadable Player gives your students the ability to download your videos right from Brightspace to watch offline. This process does not require you to leave Brightspace and the videos become downloadable even if you have not Enabled Downloading.

  1. Login to Brightspace with your MyCarletonOne
  2. Click on your course link.
  3. Click Content in the NavBar to go to your content area.
  4. Click the Module you wish to go to.
  5. Click the Web Page you wish to add the video to.
  6. Once the page opens, click Edit HTML on the bottom of the screen to enable the editor toolbar
  7. From the editor toolbar, select the icon Insert stuff.

  2. Next to the video you wish to embed, click on the Embed Settings icon.

  1. Choose Player with Download from the Choose Player pulldown menu.
  2. Click the Embed button.

  3. Then, click Save and Close on the bottom of the page to save your work.
