Seán was trained as a synthetic inorganic chemist before getting into chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD). He has several publications and patents in the fields of CVD and ALD, and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses cenetred on inorganic, physical, and materials chemistry. He started as an assistant professor in 2003, and became a full professor in 2016.
