High School Visits

HIGH SCHOOL VISITS IN THE SUPERLAB 

Visit us for a hands-on experiment in the Superlab, a free lunch at our premium dining hall, and a campus tour. Choose from: 

• Chemistry Experiment – Fall Term [target: SCH 4U]  

Detection of iron ions in water is important because of their role in both the environment and the human body. Determine the concentration of an unknown iron sample using calorimetric analysis. Prepare a calibration curve, measure absorbance with a spectrophotometer, prepare a plot of absorbance versus concentration, and calculate the concentration of unknown samples. Please read and discuss the protocol before your visit. Maximum of one booking date per school, 48 student capacity.  

• Food Science Experiment – Winter Term [target: SBI 3U, SBI 4U, SHSM]  

Explore the power of plants as natural food preservatives. Plants have evolved to protect themselves from environmental stress. Test the capacity of various plants to fight oxidative stress, inhibit microbial growth, and puncture fungal membranes. Please read and discuss the protocol before your visit. Maximum of one booking date per school, 48 student capacity.
