ICCJ Welcomes Natasha Stirrett
As the new academic year gets underway, the Institute of Criminology & Criminal Justice is thrilled to welcome our newest faculty member, Natasha Stirrett, one of two Indigenous hires in the Faculty of Public Affairs.
Natasha Stirrett is a member of Ermineskin Cree Nation who grew up in the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee (Cornwall/Akwesasane area). She holds a 3-year diploma in Behavioural Science Technology from St. Lawrence College, a 4 year honours degree in Sociology, Master of Arts in Gender Studies and is a PhD candidate in Cultural Studies at Queens University. Natasha is a community based researcher who is committed to indigenous cultural continuity and resurgence. Broadly, she studies the impacts of colonization, residential schools, child welfare displacement and the prison on indigenous peoples and how communities are responding to address the issues and resulting challenges of systemic oppression and violence.
Welcome Natasha!
