PhD Position: The Experimental Development and Characterization of Photonic Devices for Quantum Operations

Starting Summer 2025 – with Professors Connor Kupchak and Winnie Ye

The Position

Professors Winnie Ye and Connor Kupchak are currently seeking a highly motivated and innovative PhD student to specialize in the experimental development and characterization of photonic devices for quantum operations. You will have the opportunity to work on the merging of state-of-the-art integrated photonics and quantum optical devices. The work will focus on designing and implementing experiments to fabricate, test and optimize photonic devices and their suitability in quantum communications and sensing. This position offers access to advanced laboratory facilities that include precise optical characterization tools. Furthermore, you will be regularly collaborating with leading photonic and quantum researchers.

The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience with photonic technologies including: single-photon detectors, waveguides and quantum light sources. We value curiosity, collaboration and a strong work ethic for attacking challenging problems. Candidates with a background in optics, photonics, physics or electrical engineering are encouraged to apply. This position is a unique opportunity to be trained in the emerging field of quantum photonics and the experimental skills needed.
