EURUS Welcomes New Director Achim Hurrelmann!

The InstitHurrelmannute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies would like to officially welcome and introduce Prof. Achim Hurrelmann, who began his term as the new Director of EURUS on July 1.

Prof. Hurrelmann moved over to EURUS from the Department of Political Science, where he is an Associate Professor. He teaches primarily on European integration, European Union politics, as well as broader themes in comparative politics.

Prof. Hurrelmann’s research focuses on questions of legitimation and democratization in the European system of multi-level governance. Currently he is is working on two major projects; the first examining how and whether the Eurozone financial crisis has led to an increased politicization of European integration in the EU population, the second comparing patterns in the discursive politicization and legitimation of European integration to equivalent developments in North American regionalism.

In the upcoming fall term, Prof. Hurrelmann will be teaching EURR 5106, “Democracy in the European Union”. He is very much looking forward to his tenure as the Director of EURUS.

Please join us in welcoming him to the EURUS Team!
