Professor James Casteel’s latest book, Russia in the German Global Imaginary: Imperial Visions & Utopian Desires, 1905-1941 (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2016) has been shortlisted for the prestigious Council for European Studies book award. The book traces transformations in German views of Russia in the first half of the twentieth century, leading up to the disastrous German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941.
