Dear EURUS Students and Family,

I write to remind you once more that in these unprecedented and challenging times, EURUS is here for all of you.  When I wrote my first message on this in April, the power of the virus was less clear than now but I don’t know if many of us expected it to play such a prominent role in our lives for such a long time.

As I wrote in April, everyone’s circumstances are quite individual but common threads remain—now we have to deal with fall and winter semesters online, zoom fatigue, struggles with motivation, reduced social circles, an inability to travel….the list goes on.  We cannot pretend that anything is close to normal.

I want to remind everyone, as our worlds appear smaller, that we are not alone.  We will help each other through the Fall and Winter and come out the other side.  There will be times it will not be easy and we will need to rely on each other.  Please trust me that your professors and colleagues will spare no effort to help you and that taking care of your mental and physical health is paramount.

Carleton offers online counselling and these sessions will be needed more than ever. Please see the appropriate hub that will lead you to this and other important information at: https://students.carleton.ca/coronavirus/

Also, remember that you can contact our administrator Krysia (krysia.kotarba@carleton.ca) or myself (jeff.sahadeo@carleton.ca) at any time and we will help you as best we can.

We also welcome suggestions on how to continue our community feel during these times- please contact me.  Any of you following our Facebook and Twitter feeds have seen our events and we are planning various virtual coffee/pub nights throughout the fall and winter with students, professors and alumni.

I look forward to contacting with any and all of you when you want or need to reach out.

Above all, stay healthy and safe. Please know that my most important job by far now is getting you all through this is the most painless way possible.

Contact me anytime,

Jeff Sahadeo
