Fall Orientation Registration

Dates: Saturday, August 31st, Sunday, September 1st, and Monday September 2nd
Time: 9:00am-9:00pm
Location: Fenn Lounge, Carleton Residence
* Please note Residence check-in is only from 9:00am-5:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.

At registration, you will be able to pick up your Fall Orientation kit! This includes your team t-shirt, exclusive Ravens hoodie, Homecoming t-shirt, and lots of other Ravens gear! We are also available to chat about Fall Orientation and any questions you may have about the program.

** Registration and kit pick-up will be available in the Student Experience Office from 8:30am-4:30pm from Tuesday, September 3rd to Friday, September 6th.

WAKE UP!

To ensure that you don’t miss out on any of the activities, facilitators will be at your door bright and early to lead you to the first event of the day. Off-Campus Students – meet at your group’s designated meeting location. If you don’t know where this is, just ask any facilitators nearby.

Opening Ceremonies & Ice Breakers

This is your official welcome to Carleton University. You will get a chance to meet your Orientation Coordinators again and hear from our special guest speakers. This event will really kick off the week! You will also meet your fellow Ravens and volunteers of the week with fun and inclusive icebreakers.

Join your team in various classrooms around campus to learn tips from your Vice-Heads on how to succeed in your first year through an interactive presentation called “Arrive, Survive, Thrive.”

Sprott Case Competition * (This is a Business Orientation only event)

Location: Tory Building Classrooms | 9:30 am – 11:30 am

This will give you a look into the world of Sprott and what it means to be a business student at Carleton. You will be able to participate in smaller groups and show off your business strategies to other teams. This is only available to students registered in Sprosh.

Canal Games

Location: Hartwell Locks | 12:00pm – 5:00pm (Rain Location: Fieldhouse)

Get ready for an action packed day of friendly competition and larger than life activities including inflatables, a dunk tank, and much more. Join us on the Canal for a pizza lunch, a chance to win the Spirit Award and tons of free swag! Don’t Forget: we will be taking a class of 2023 photo before the games begin, so in addition to bringing your a-game, make sure to bring your smiles.

Academic Orientation Day (Mandatory for All Students)

Location: Various Locations | 8:30am – 2:00pm

There’s a lot to do this week. Between finding out where your classes are, meeting your Fall Orientation group and learning all about university life, things can get a little crazy! Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Academic Orientation Day is designed to make sure that you get all of the necessary information to ensure that your academic journey will soar. Along with important information about your Faculty and Department, you will also learn about all of the academic and student support programs available at Carleton. Looking to supplement your time at Carleton with co-curricular experiences? Academic Orientation Day will provide you with all of this information and more. You’ll receive a faculty specific t-shirt, meet your classmates, and get to spend time with professors and staff. Please note: Academic Orientation is mandatory for all first year students. Transfer Students Orientation

Location: Health Science Building 1301 |

Registration is required in advance. Emails with instructions were sent to target student groups and information will be posted to the closed “Carleton University Transfer Students” group.

12:00pm – 1:00pm: Snacks and student networking, students may arrive early to socialize with other transfer students over light refreshments.

1:00pm – 2:30pm: Program

2:30pm – 3:30pm: Campus tours for interested students. This is not mandatory.

Expo Carleton

Want to get involved in the Carleton community but don’t know where to start? Want to know what the Carleton campus has to offer you? This is the event for you! Expo Carleton showcases all the Carleton clubs, societies and services and gives you the opportunity to walk around for the ones that fit your taste buds. Shine Rally

Would it really be a Carleton event if we didn’t teach a new cheer? Come to the Shine Rally to learn about Shinerama and hear directly from an adult with Cystic Fibrosis and how Shinerama has impacted their life. Get in true Carleton spirit with our famous Shine cheer, and get hyped for Shine day on Friday. The team competition winner will also be announced.

Wednesday, September 4th

Sprott Night at FunHaven * (This is a Business Orientation only event)

Location: FunHaven | 5:00pm – 10:00pm

Sprosh students will head to FunHaven for full range of rock climbing, laser tag, bumper cars, and arcade games. This event is only for students resisted in Sprosh.

*There will be a shuttle to FunHaven leaving from P18 starting at 4:30pm. Buses will be leaving every hour until 10:30pm. Shuttles will also bring students back to campus for 11:00pm. FunHaven is located 25 minutes away from Carleton University.

Headphone Disco

Location: Oliver’s (1st floor Unicentre) | 9:00pm-12:00am

Headphone Disco are the inventors of the ‘silent dance party’ and have been touring the world! The DJs spin 2 different styles of music side by side over 2 different wireless channels. You can select which DJ you want to listen to using the switch on the headphones and then dance along to the music of your choice! On top of all that, the theme of the party is glow in the dark. We’ve got black lights and glow sticks, up to you to show-off your white!

Fun N’ Games at Athletics Night

Location: Athletics | 8:00pm – 11:00pm

Come out to Athletics and see what amazing activities they have to offer. Here is a little taste of what they have in store:

  • Open recreational soccer and bubble soccer (hosted by RRRA) in the FieldHouse.

  • Glow Yoga in the Ravens Nest (please bring your own mat if you have one, but if not, there will be some available)

  • Fitness Center will be open so students can work out, check out the equipment and receive a tour from staff.

Shinerama!

Location: Your Group’s Designated Meeting Location | 7:00am – 5:00pm

We will head out into various locations throughout Ottawa to raise money for Shinerama – Students Fighting Cystic Fibrosis. Talk to your facilitators to find out more about this campus-wide initiative and to confirm your group’s fundraising location. This event is a great way to give back to the Ottawa community, bond with your team and contribute to an amazing cause. Prayer Rooms

The Muslim prayer room (Musala) is open everyday at all hours in 225A University Centre. It is a place where students can go to offer their prayers in a clean and safe environment. Ablution (wudhu) facilities are able available for both brothers and sisters bedside the Musala.
