FASS Faculty Members Receive SSHRC Connection Grants
Congratulations to the following Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences faculty members who were awarded Connection Grants in the August 2026 competition:
- Brian Greenspan (English Language and Literature) received funding to support a Media Arts and Humanities Summer Intensive to be held at Carleton University and partner cultural venues in Ottawa in July 2027. This event responds to a need within the arts and humanities for accessible, practice-based training models that go beyond text centred scholarly methods to support more innovative research creation. Hands on workshops, public cultural events, and applied media practices will connect scholarly, artistic, and community knowledge.
- Augustine Park (Sociology and Anthropology) will use funding to hold a conference that will equip qualitative researchers with the knowledge and skills to improve their data management practices. This conference responds to the Tri-Agency’s Research Data Management Policy as new requirements are set to take effect with funding awarded beginning January 2027. There has so far been relatively little engagement in Canada by qualitative researchers; this conference seeks to fill this gap by addressing best practices for ethical and secure deposit of data while maintaining protection for research participants.
- Michael Windover (School for Studies in Art and Culture) received funding to organize a conference on the history of interiors in Canada to be held at Carleton University in November 2026. Canadians spend much of their time indoors, and interior environments thus become potent sites of lived experience and memory production. The conference seeks to advance research on this overlooked topic in design studies by bringing together historians, practitioners, students and interested members of the public to consider interiors as sites of historical inquiry, cultural memory and diverse heritage practices.
The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Connection Grant supports events and outreach activities geared towards short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives.
