The annual Film Studies Awards Ceremony was held on Friday, Sept. 14, and the winners of the various prizes, scholarships, and other honours were announced.

Brendan Luck, completing his Honours BA in Film Studies, is the winner of the Adrian Sheppard Memorial Scholarship. Awarded annually to outstanding students enrolled in the Fourth year of the Film Studies Honours program, the intent of this award is to encourage Film Studies students to continue their education with a Master’s degree and pursue a career in film. Endowed in 2016 by friends and family in loving memory of Adrian Sheppard who tragically passed away before he was to begin his Master’s degree in Film Studies at Carleton University.

Alana Skwarok, just completing her MA in Film Studies, is the winner of the Film Studies Graduate Scholarship.

Victoria Platel, a fourth-year undergraduate student, completing her Honours BA in English and Film Studies is the winner of the Ottawa Film Society Award.

Ethan Townes is the recipient of an Ontario Graduate Scholarship.

Matthew Dueck is the recipient of a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) MA Scholarship.

Eddie Cai, completing a double major in Film Studies and Philosophy, was the winner of the Carleton University Research Opportunity, a summer research internship for undergraduate students. Eddie worked with Prof. Marc Furstenau on a project on Virtual Reality and psychological experiments on bodily illusion.

Landon Arbuckle, graduate of the Film Studies MA program was awarded the 2017-18 SSAC Film Studies Teaching Assistant Award.
