It will explore among other things the status and place of TIFF in the world of film festivals; the festival’s programming and curatorial strategies; its relationship to film industries, to Hollywood, as well as to less prominent film making nations and traditions and the state of world cinema today from a film festival’s director.

From 1994-2018, Handling was responsible for leading both the operational and artistic growth of TIFF, as the organization grew to become an internationally renowned cultural institution. He has curated retrospectives and Canadian film programmes at Sundance, the BFI and the Havana film Festival, and sat on juries around the globe. Holder of numerous Honourary Doctorates, Handling has been named an Officer of the Order of Canada and an Officier des Arts et des Lettres (France).
