Patrizia Gentile featured in TV5 documentary on queer military history
For Queer History Month, the Feminist Institute of Social Transformation is pleased to highlight Patrizia Gentile’s contribution to the French-language documentary series 39-45 en sol canadien on TV5.
Gentile is featured in the episode “Guerre à l’homosexualité,” which explores the regulation and treatment of queer people in the Canadian military during the Second World War. The episode examines discriminatory military policies and the risks queer service members faced, including arrest, dismissal, humiliation, and exclusion.
First aired on September 28, the episode offers an opportunity to reflect on histories of institutional discrimination and the importance of bringing queer experiences into public memory.
