Yasaman Amini
I am a PhD Candidate working with Dr. Koreen Millard and Dr. Murray Richardson. My research interest in soil moisture originated during my MSc project at the University of Tehran, where I focused on enhancing hydrological models at the watershed scale using passive microwave satellite observations. Building upon the foundation, my current PhD research revolves around the utilization of passive microwave brightness temperature to identify peatlands in Canada that are particularly vulnerable to wildfires, a risk that has been further exacerbated by global warming in recent years. By deepening our understanding of soil moisture dynamics, my goal is to provide valuable insights that will contribute to the development of a tool to predict wildfires in peatlands. Implementing these methodologies will ultimately minimize the loss of peatlands, invaluable ecosystems that require hundreds of years to form.
