2024 UG Physical Geography Field Course

The physical geography field course took place over the February winter break period at Forêt Montmorency, Quebec. Students learned field and laboratory approaches, methodologies and techniques in physical geography. Course Topics included: field measurement; spatial and temporal variability of field data; hypotheses and hypothesis testing; field experiments; precision and accuracy; operation, care, and maintenance of field equipment; field notes; oral and written presentations of field studies.

The first night arriving at Forêt Montmorency students started working on making thermocouples for use in measuring changing temperatures inside their quinzhees.
Starting each day a group of students would present a weather brief for the day.
Students built quinzhees to conduct various field measurements.
Graduate students who were helping to lead the students at the field course shared their experience of graduate school in our programs.
