Mentees
A Mentee is a first-year student seeking support from an upper-year student in the areas of well-being, community building, and creating a sense of belonging.
To become a Mentee, you must:
- Self-identify as First Nations, Inuit or Métis
- Be interested in having a peer mentor for the year (September to April)
- Be willing to commit to communicating regularly with their peer mentor
Why become a Mentee?
Beginning this new journey can be a very exciting time but it can also be stressful. Indigenous Peer Mentors have a unique perspective on the Indigenous post-secondary student experience and are available to meet with you on a weekly basis to offer you support and guidance during the Fall and Winter semesters. Indigenous Peer Mentors will connect you with many resources, including with the staff and students at the Centre for Indigenous Initiatives.
What are some of the benefits of being a Mentee?
- Learn about, find, and utilize campus resources and support services
- Build community and connect with other Indigenous students
- Meet new people who will encourage you to become more involved in campus life
- Receive support and guidance as you determine what academic success means to you
- Develop stronger, more effective time management and study techniques
- Foster leadership and communication skills
- Learn how to set realistic personal and educational goals
