Canada in the Global Refugee Regime

      We cordially invite you to the panel on “Canada in the Global Refugee Regime.” It is part of a broader conference organized by Carleton’s Faculty of Public Affairs as part of Carleton’s 75^th Anniversary. The conference is free, but registration is required in this link.

       The panel will be a moderated conversation between Jean-Nicolas Beuze (Representative to Canada, UNHCR), Heather Jeffrey (Director General, Humanitarian Affairs, Global Affairs Canada), Jessie Thomson (Senior Director, Humanitarian Assistance and Emergencies Team, CARE Canada) and James Milner (Carleton University), situated within the current context of the global refugee regime and follow-up to the 2016 New York Declaration. In the discussion, they will work to address the following questions:

• What are the current challenges and opportunities for the global refugee regime in the aftermath of the New York Declaration?
• How can we understand these challenges and opportunities in a changing global political environment?
• What are the forms of leadership that can contribute to positive outcomes in this process?
• What are the opportunities for leadership from the Government of Canada and Canadian civil society in the next year?
• What are the opportunities for Canadian leadership in the next decade?

There will also be time for a general Q&A.
