Registration: How to Write Effectively

Joe Paraskevas is a former journalist who has worked as a communicator in the federal government for the last 15 years. In two decades as a professional journalist, Joe wrote sports for the Winnipeg Free Press, covered business and city hall for The London Free Press, and local and federal politics for the Calgary Herald. He was a member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery working with Canwest News and re-joined the Winnipeg Free Press when he and his wife moved home in 2006.  A victim of budget cuts in 2009, Joe made the jump to the federal public service. Since then, he has worked in the Communications branches at Industry; Treasury Board; Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship; Environment and Climate Change; Finance, Privy Council Office, and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. In government, Joe has sought to align his work as a communicator with the goals of policymakers. He brings a fascination for policy and an approach to comms that is both practical and imaginative.

Mr. Paraskevas will share techniques to write effectively, with a specific focus on policy writing.  This session will be helpful for any students wanting to improve their writing, and for those who will work in coop positions in the government.
