Short Month, Strong Momentum
Visually, February is one of the most pleasing months on the calendar. The symmetry of its neatly aligned four‑week block makes everything look balanced and tidy. But in reality? February often feels anything but serene. It’s the shortest month of the year, which means less time to wait… and less time to procrastinate. The good news: February also brings Reading Week (Feb. 16–20), a welcome pause in the term that can help you reset, catch up, or take a much‑needed breather.
February at a Glance: Short Month, Big Impact
Because the month is so compressed, planning ahead makes all the difference. A few key things to note: Reading Week (Feb. 16–20) is a perfect time to get caught up or relax if you’re already on track.
Consider a balanced approach:
- Schoolwork: review upcoming midterms, organize lecture notes, start prepping final assignments, and build a March study plan.
- Leisure: go outside for fresh air, read something non‑academic, spend time with others, or take a full day off.
- Reminder: The April Exam Schedule will be posted on Friday, February 13, 2026, just before Reading Week, ideal timing for early study planning. And if you haven’t done so already, bookmark the Events and Important Dates webpage: https://students.carleton.ca/academic-dates/
Grade Tracking & Midterm Season
Midterm grades start rolling in throughout February, making this a crucial time to check your standing in each course. Prioritize upcoming assessments based on weight and consider meeting with instructors early if you feel unsure about course progress. If concerns arise, reach out to departmental contacts/academic advisors before the Academic Withdrawal deadline on March 15, 2026 to fully explore your options.
Check out Grade Tracking via Notion, the Grade Calculator website or even email us at PMC_LS@cunet.carleton.ca and we will send you an excel file you can populate with your course information and marks.
Reminder: As you begin tracking midterm marks this month, keep in mind that these are not official grades, but rather helpful indicators of where you stand. Use them to guide your study planning, organize priorities, and prepare for upcoming assessments.
Boost Research Skills: Connect with the Library
February is a research‑heavy month for many students. Working with a research assistant in the library can strengthen your confidence and efficiency.
