Are you looking to connect with other graduate students? Do you need more accountability in graduate school? The PMC Graduate Writing Group is here for you! Graduate students (Masters and Ph.D.) from all faculties/departments are encouraged to join our supportive and ever-growing graduate student community.

  • Section 1: Every Monday from January 9 – April 10, 2023 from 10-11:30am
  • Section 2: Every Friday from February 3 – April 14, 2023 from 1:30 – 3:00 pm

Graduate students meet virtually over Zoom to share their graduate school experiences, talk through writing blocks, and work on graduate school projects (e.g., thesis, conference papers, seminar papers, grant proposals, TA marking etc.).

Students begin each session by setting tangible goals (specific tasks to complete during the session) and end each session by reflecting on their progress and setting goals for the week ahead. Regular attendance is not mandatory and graduate students do not have to turn on their webcams and/or microphones to participate. By joining the group, participants have even found work “buddies” to regularly check in with throughout the week. This group reminds graduate students that they are not alone and offers them a supportive, safe space to soundboard ideas and receive tips and advice.

Students have the option to sign up for both sections if they would like the option to attend both time slots or select one group week-to-week.

Questions? Contact the PMC Grad Writing Group facilitators:

Section 1: Dr. Madison Bettle (madisonbettle@cunet.carleton.ca).

Section 2: Laura Hnatiw (laurahnatiw@cunet.carleton.ca)

During the session(s), students can chat or join a breakout room with a PMC Learning Strategist to discuss time management, scheduling milestones, writing tips, strategies, and resources.
