To All Members of the Carleton Community,
After a fantastic 45-year career at Carleton, Jim Kennelly is retiring on Jan. 31. You are invited to join us in celebration of Jim’s career and dedication to Carleton student life at a reception on March 5, 2020 at 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in Dunton Tower 2017. Please register online to confirm your attendance.
Jim is a Carleton graduate (BA/75) and has worked as Carleton’s Ombudsperson for the last 42 years. In this role, he oversees approximately 850 cases per year and uses his extensive training in dispute resolution and knowledge of legislation and case law to mediate a variety of issues including academic disputes, legal aid, consumer protection and employee issues.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in 1975, Jim worked as a Co-ordinator of Student Services for three years at Carleton in what was known at the time as St. Patrick’s College. He then became the University’s first Ombudsperson in 1978, a role that he has since expanded into a team that now serves Carleton’s more than 31,000 students.
Effective Feb. 1, Siobhan MacManus will serve as Interim Ombudsperson until a new Ombudsperson has been appointed. In the meantime, you can reach Ombuds Services through the ombuds@carleton.ca email address.
Please join me in wishing Jim well as he moves into his retirement, and I hope you will be able to attend the reception on March 5.
Sincerely,
Jerry Tomberlin Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
