“Making a decision about next steps is hard. I suggest students should really think about what makes them the happiest in life, and pursue next steps based on that.“
Brief description of what I do!
My research focuses on how solitude can promote well-being. In particular, I study how motivations for solitude, personality traits, and environmental context (e.g., spending time in nature) can promote different aspects of hedonic and eudaimonic well-being.
What inspired your career path after graduation?
I love learning and enjoy conducting research!
How did your experience in the psychology program shape your journey?
The psychology program at Carleton was so good that I refused to leave! Throughout my journey I have learned so much, and each day I continue to learn more and more.
What skills or experiences were most valuable after graduation?
Interpersonal skills and making connections
Are there specific Psychology courses, professors, or experiences that stood out during your time at Carleton?
This is a hard question because there are so many amazing psychology professors. I switched into the psychology program (from art history) because of how amazing Chris Motz‘s classes were. My supervisor Dr. Robert Coplan is an amazing mentor and has made my Ph.D. an INCREDIBLE experience. I have also enjoyed working with Dr. Joanna Pozzulo, and couldn’t have gotten to where I am today without her. Dr. Chad Danyluck was also an amazing TA mentor and taught me so much. I have immense gratitude and appreciation for all of these individuals.
What has been a highlight or proud moment in your career so far?
TA’ing the social psychology course was a huge highlight of my career. I loved working one on one with the students and watching them grow academically over the course of a school-year. I also really enjoyed travelling to international conferences (e.g., Korea, Portugal, Washington!) to present my research.
