The Department of Systems and Computer Engineering often has Outside Priority TA opportunities available for highly qualified undergraduate and graduate students. The number of positions available varies from term to term depending on the course needs.

Are you eligible to apply?

To be eligible to apply for an outside priority TA position, you must:

  • Be registered full-time in a degree program in the SCE department and maintain full-time status.
  • Remain in good academic standing for the duration of your funding. If you choose not to register in a term, you will forfeit that portion of your funding.
  • If you are an undergraduate student, the minimum GPA requirement is 9.0. If you are a graduate student, the minimum GPA requirement is 9.5.
  • Be physically present in Canada and eligible to work in Canada (i.e, have a valid SIN).
  • Be able to perform your duties both in-person and online based on the course needs

We encourage applications of undergraduate students and those who would contribute to the further diversification of our University including, but not limited to: women; visible minorities; First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples; persons with disabilities; and persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity and expressions.

What are the application deadlines?

Interested students must complete an Outside Priority TA Application on Carleton Central. On the Main Menu, look under TA Management, then choose TA Outside Priority Applications and follow the instructions.

If you encounter issues with submitting your OP TA application form on Carleton Central, please contact SYSC Grad Admin.

Deadlines for each term are as follows:

  • Spring/Summer term: April 15
  • Fall term: August 15
  • Winter term: December 15

We ask students to keep in mind that accepting a TA position is accepting an official job offer. TA positions should be taken seriously. You are expected to be qualified for the job you are applying for, and be available to perform all required duties assigned to you on time.

Important note: Interested students should indicate/update their teaching preferences depending on the courses offered in the term they are applying for.

What will be your duties?

Duties vary by course/instructor. They may include conducting labs or study groups, marking assignments and tests, proctoring exams, and holding office hours.

Unsatisfactory performance of your duties will result in hiring denial in the future.
