On Nov. 18, Join Dr. Prosenjit Bose from Carleton’s School of Computer Science for the 2025 Herzberg Lecture, where he will explore the question:“Is There Structure Hidden in the Chaos of a Bunch of Dots?”
Imagine a map of scattered dots representing clinics, cell towers, or fire stations. How do we determine the optimal locations to serve communities or improve services? Dr. Bose will introduce two powerful geometric concepts, Voronoi diagrams and Delaunay triangulations, that help uncover hidden patterns in such data, with applications ranging from city planning to biology.
The Herzberg Lecture is held annually in honour of Gerhard Herzberg, former Chancellor of Carleton University and recipient of the 1971 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The series highlights the connection between science and society, exploring ideas that shape our understanding of the world.
