Sexual Violence Policy Review: Drafting Phase
January 22, 2025
As a content warning, please note this email includes information and links about sexual violence. We understand that reviewing this material could trigger strong reactions and we encourage the community to connect with various support and resources.
To all Members of the Carleton Community,
As announced in the fall , we initiated a broad and inclusive consultation process to review the Sexual Violence Policy. This review, while conducted every three years to meet the provincial mandate, also ensures our policy remains responsive and supportive to our community’s needs. As we move into the next phase of this process, I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who provided feedback during the listening phase.
From the feedback received throughout the listening phase, four main themes emerged: Training and Awareness, Policy Administration, Response, and Support and Resources. In our commitment to transparency, we have posted a report summarizing the feedback we received. After careful review, we have published a draft of the revised Sexual Violence Policy with tracked changes.
I encourage everyone to review the feedback report and revised draft and share additional feedback either on the consultation website or by email at svpolicy@carleton.ca.
As noted in the feedback report, we also received valuable input on sexual violence prevention and education on our campus, specifically around training, support and resources. This feedback will be shared with Equity and Inclusive Communities and the Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Committee (SVPEC), to see where updates can be made to the university’s sexual violence prevention strategy.
Over the next few weeks, we will hold information and feedback sessions to gather more feedback on the proposed changes. Consultation meetings with key stakeholder groups including labour unions, student government and student groups are available upon request by contacting svpolicy@carleton.ca. Additional sessions and individual meetings can also be arranged upon request. Feedback on the revised draft will be collected until February 28, 2025.
I would like to thank everyone for your participation in this process. I look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts throughout this important review.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Blanchard
Vice-President (Students and Enrolment)
