Consultation 2024-25
Revised Sexual Violence Policy
Following a broad and inclusive consultation process to review the Carleton Sexual Violence Policy, the Board of Governors approved the revised policy (PDF, 451 KB) at its meeting on June 4, 2025.
As part of our commitment to a transparent review process, all feedback received throughout the consultation process has been made available on the feedback received web page.
A history of all outreach activities that took place during this review, including communications, information and feedback sessions and consultation meetings, is available on the community outreach record web page.
We are committed to ensuring a safe, supportive and healthy campus for everyone, and to providing support to anyone affected by sexual violence.
This revised policy represents one of many ongoing initiatives to prevent and address sexual violence on our campus. We received thoughtful input regarding training, resources, communication and support. This feedback has been shared with Equity and Inclusive Communities and the Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Committee (SVPEC) to inform updates to the university’s broader sexual violence prevention strategy.
Carleton University would like to thank the entire community for their engagement in this important process.
About the Consultation Process
After robust consultation processes in 2018-2019 and 2021-2022, Carleton University has continued to review and make revisions to the Sexual Violence Policy. As noted in the work plan, to address the ongoing feedback received since the last review of the Policy, it was advised that consideration should be given to clarify the Policy in the following areas:
- Review the provisions on interim measures and confidentiality
- Review section 6.5 (a) for survivor-centric considerations
- Review the objectives of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Committee
- Add a definition of sexual misconduct under Bill 26
- Review section 2.2 – Consensual Romantic or Sexual Relationship Guidelines
- General updates to titles, department names, processes, etc.
In order to do this in the most collaborative way possible, the Office of the Vice-President (Students and Enrolment) (OVPSE), consulted on the following work plan. After taking into consideration the feedback received, the office implemented the work plan as described below. Feedback on the Sexual Violence Policy was collected throughout the 2024-2025 academic year using an anonymous online form, through information and feedback sessions and through the svpolicy@carleton.ca email account.
To provide a transparent review process, all feedback submitted has been made available in aggregate to the Carleton community on the feedback received webpage.
