Job Description: Website Social Media and Events Assistant

Compensation: $15.00/hr + 4% vacation
Location of Work: Remote Work from Home
Job Description: This position is quite diverse and will, in part, be based on the candidate’s experience. Under the supervision of the Pauline Jewett Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies, the student will perform the following tasks, with priority given to help with the Institute’s website and social media:

Assist with Departmental social media, including but not limited to: writing posts (Twitter, Facebook), promoting events, setting up new accounts on popular platforms, creating graphics in Canva, and sourcing images.
Write news stories for the Departmental website about faculty publications, departmental events, student accomplishments, and other newsworthy activities.
Attend departmental events (virtual or in-person, depending on COVID restrictions and other safety protocols) to take photos for social media and/or write content about the events for social media and the website.
Assist with departmental administrative duties, including but not limited to: updating course calendars, revising content on the website, outreach to students and faculty, basic research tasks, etc.
Assist with planning departmental events as required (Florence Bird Lecture, Orientation, Graduate Conference, etc).
If working on campus (rather than remotely), deliver materials to other departments or pick up materials on campus to bring to the Department when requested.
Assist with creating and proofreading promotional materials and handouts for the Department.
Other administrative duties, as requested.

Skills Required:
Strong organizational skills with an eye for detail.
Proven writing and communication skills.
Ability to work independently (with support and guidance from the Department).
Creativity and an eye for design (no technical design skills are required, however).
Competence with major social media platforms, or willingness to learn (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, other platforms would be an asset).
Basic Microsoft Word capabilities (or equivalent software).
Ability to take photographs with own camera (an asset, but not required).
