SSO FAQ
- What can I do if I don’t want my account to be part of SSO?
-
All accounts associated with a cmail or cunet email address are a part of the Carleton University Zoom account and cannot be disassociated. You may choose to open you own account with Zoom directly using another email address (including your @carleton.ca email address), however these accounts will be at your own expense and will not integrate with Brightspace and Kaltura Mediaspace.
- Can I share a Zoom Account with another user?
-
Shared Zoom accounts are not permitted under the terms of use for Carleton’s license. Keeping your account private to you helps ensure the security of your Zoom account and the MC1 credentials you use to login. If you need to share access to a Zoom meeting, use the scheduling privileges and alternative host functions to work collaboratively within Zoom. If you need assistance using the scheduling privileges and alternative host features, contact TLS via the TLS Support Portal.
Zoom
- For meetings that I schedule, can I sign in early or stay late?
-
Yes, you are able to sign in early or stay late in a scheduled Zoom meeting. Zoom meetings do not open and close at the start and end dates/times. The indicated dates and times are for scheduling purposes and to help with retrieving meeting information.
- Zoom says I cannot join a session because it requires registration – What’s up?
-
In order to enhance security in Zoom and prevent Zoombombing, some Zoom users enable a registration list. When a registration list is used, Zoom is able to restrict meeting access to anyone whose email is not on the list. Participants attempting to join the session without first logging into a Zoom account will be unable to access the session.
To assist with joining Zoom meetings, login to your Zoom account using your MC1 credentials with your @cunet or @cmail email address.
- How do I save attendance for a Zoom meeting?
-
See the following support document: How to Save Attendance for a Zoom Meeting. If you need any assistance with retrieving your meeting attendance visit the TLS Portal for support.
- What’s the difference between cloud and local storage?
-
Local recordings are stored internally to your computer’s hard drive space, whereas cloud recordings are stored externally. Recordings stored within the Zoom cloud are automatically deleted after 120 days, however these recordings are automatically uploaded to the host’s Mediaspace account. Mediaspace recordings can be embedded into a course page in Brightspace and are deleted 4 years after their last view.
We recommend recording to the cloud to prevent loss of content, and ease sharing recordings with others.

If you have any questions about the policies that govern Zoom, or about user conduct concerns such as Zoombombing, please email TLS at: tlssupport@cunet.carleton.ca
- What are the minimum requirements to use Zoom?
-
To maintain Zoom’s high security and operational standards regarding their applications, connectivity, and media across the platform, Zoom enforces minimum software and hardware requirements. Carleton recommends all users ensure they are regularly updating their applications, operating systems, and browsers. See Zoom’s System Requirements support page for more details.
