Today, Microsoft has announced a security vulnerability in all versions of Internet Explorer that will allow a malicious program to be run on your computer while you browse the Internet.
For Windows 7 Users
Until Microsoft provides a fix, ITS strongly advises against using Internet Explorer to surf off-campus websites. Please use an alternative browser, such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox until the fix is issued. Users can continue to use Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to surf on-campus websites. ITS will install the fix when it is released by Microsoft and provide an update to the campus.
For Windows XP Users
A fix will not be issued for Windows XP, as Microsoft terminated updates and support earlier this year. ITS strongly advises users currently running Windows XP to upgrade immediately to Windows 7. In the meantime, please use an alternative Internet browser, such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
Please contact the ITS Service Desk at 520-3700 or its.service.desk@carleton.ca if you have any questions regarding this statement.
