Performance Tweaks for PC Outlook
- Speed start-up of PC Outlook or opening of attachments: Disable any Outlook Add-ins you don’t need:
Outlook > File > Options > Add-Ins > Go…
Uncheck all Add-Ins except Microsoft Exchange Add-In
Click “OK”
- Speed up filing messages in PC Outlook by Enabling Cached Mode.
Outlook > File > Account Settings > Account Settings…> Change…
Check “Use Cached Exchange Mode”
Click “next”, then “Finish”
Note: if you later have problems, the ITS Service Desk may have you disable Cached Mode as part of the troubleshooting process.
- Unreliable Connections to Exchange server? Try creating a new Outlook Profile:
Windows Start Menu > Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles…> Add… > Create New Profile
Enter new profile name and click “OK”
Enter name and email address (e.g. janedoe@cunet.carleton.ca NOT jane.doe@carleton.ca or jane_doe@carleton.ca)
Ensure Wi-Fi is disabled on your PC, if you are using a wired Ethernet connection:
Windows Start Menu > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Centre
Turn off Wi-Fi (if enabled): Select Wi-Fi Network Properties and Disable.
