We are saddened to hear the news that Dr. Lilly Koltun, Adjunct Research Professor in Art and Architectural History at Carleton, passed away on November 21. Her connections to Carleton go back to 1979, when she was a lecturer in the Art History program.  In 1993 she became an external faculty member for the MA in Canadian Art History and was subsequently appointed Adjunct Research Professor.  Dr. Koltun completed her PhD at St. Andrews University in Scotland and was the former Director General of the Portrait Gallery of Canada. She published widely on the history of portraiture and photography.  In 2002, she was awarded the Commemorative Medal of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee for her significant contribution to Canada. In later life, Dr. Koltun pursued an active career as an interdisciplinary artist, whose practice included video, performance, sculpture, painting and photography. Always present at art events at Carleton and in Ottawa, Dr. Lilly Koltun will be greatly missed.
