To accompany the conversation between the French and German Ambassadors on April 4th, there will be an exhibit called “50 Years of the Élysée Treaty” displayed, which outlines the history of the French-German relationship under the treaty. It will be up and open to the public in the foyer of Robertson Hall from April 2nd until April 8th.
The exhibit, beginning with the aftermath in Europe of the Second World War, follows the decision-making process of Konrad Adenauer and Charles De Gaulle that led to reconciliation between the two countries. It goes on to explain the evolution of relations under the treaty, the impact the unification of Europe has had on their relationship and also the impact their relationship has had on the EU. The story of France and Germany is accompanied by relevant historical photos.
