The Centre for European Studies (CES) and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Canada (KAS) are pleased to announce that Dr. Russell Foster has been selected as the 2023 Konrad Adenauer Visiting Scholar on Transatlantic Relations. Dr. Foster is a Lecturer in British and European Politics at King’s College London. He researches national and transnational identities, and how they change in periods of intense social and political disruption. Please find his web profile here.

As Konrad Adenauer Visiting Scholar, Dr. Foster will spend the Fall 2023 term (September to December) in residence at Carleton University. He will conduct research for two forthcoming books on the increasing political significance of identities in the twenty-first century. He will pursue research into how different identities of “Western” are emerging alongside national, British, “European”, and North American identities in response to Russian aggression and anti-Western sentiment; and changing imaginations of who is and is not, and who should and should not be considered, “European”. He will teach a course in the Political Science and European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (EURUS) programs, titled “Constructing European Identities”.
