The Jean Monnet Cente of Excellence, in coordination with the Embassy of Germany in Ottawa, are pleased to host an EU Policy Talk, Beyond hard science: Scenarios about the EU’s digital sovereignty, with Dr. Annegret Bendiek, Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) Berlin.

About the event: Europe today is confronted with a challenging global political environment. The digitalization of ever more areas of action and conflicts between the major powers have led to the calls for European power politics in the digital sphere. These are (only) justified if they are understood in accordance with democratic values and multilateral principles and related to the promotion of open society. What future scenarios are plausible for EU’s position in a growing tech rivalry between United States and China?

Dr. Bendiek is Senior Associate in the EU-Europe Research Division at Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) Berlin. Her current research focuses on Digital geopolitics, EU cyber diplomacy, EU cyber security regulation and EU cyber defense.

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required to attend. Please complete the form:

Please note: Registrations will be accepted on a first come basis and space is limited for the event. Accepted registrants will receive an email confirmation.
