Research: Dr. Van Raamsdonk is interested in understanding the biology of aging and the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disease. He is also interested in the role of aging in these neurodegenerative diseases and believes that by studying the aging process that the knowledge gained can be applied to developing novel treatments for neurodegenerative disease. Work in the Van Raamsdonk lab primarily uses the worm C. elegans as a model organism and many projects are focused on the mitochondria. Dr. Van Raamsdonk has been studying the relationship between oxidative stress and aging, as well as the role of oxidative stress in neurodegenerative diseases.
