On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), I am honoured to welcome you to Edmonton for the 10th Meeting of the Canadian Oxidative Stress Consortium (COSC) at the University of Alberta, May 30th – June 1st, 2018.

The LOC and Executive Committee for the COSC has put together an outstanding scientific program that brings together today’s leading Canadian researchers in the field of oxidative stress. The Meeting will have six symposia: 1) Aging And Mitochondrial Disease, 2) Oxidative Stress In Cancer, 3) Oxidative Stress And Cardiovascular Disease, 4) Oxidative Stress And Toxicology (dedicated to Dr. Peter J. O’Brien), 5) Oxidative Stress In Neurology and 6) Oxidative Stress In Health And The Environment. As well, the Meeting will have a Graduate Trainee Symposium/Competition and Postdoctoral Trainee Symposium organized from the submitted abstracts. There will be poster sessions and travel awards presented at the Meeting Banquet. Commercial exhibits and workshops will be an integral part of our conference. The conference will be held at the Katz Group Centre for Pharmacy and Health Research at the North Campus of the University of Alberta.

We look forward to you joining us for a meeting filled with opportunities for discussion and rich scientific exchange. This is the first time the meeting has been held in Western Canada, and we hope that you will take the opportunity to make the most of your visit. As the capital of Alberta, Edmonton has a newly revitalized legislative grounds, which are open for visitors. From the glass pyramids of the Muttart Conservatory in the river River Valley, to the highest streetcar crossing in the world on top of the high-level bridge, there is plenty to see and do. Many attractions include the modern Museum of Art, the Ice District including the new Rogers Place arena, the new Royal Alberta Museum to be opened in 2018, and West Edmonton Mall. Restaurants, entertainment, and nightlife on Whyte Ave. and Jasper Ave are all easily accessible during your stay. Last, but not least, it is the perfect time of year to visit the beautiful National Parks of the Canadian Rockies, just a few hours away. We will be organizing a trip to the Rockies the day after the conference for those of you who are interested.
