Colloquium: Jon Frauley – Fictional Social Realities and the Criminology Imagination
- In-person event
The ICCJ is pleased to present a colloquium with Professor Jon Frauley, who will speak on “Fictional Social Realities and the Criminological Imagination”.
This paper discusses a pedagogical corollary to the demand for a reflexive criminological practice. Demands for reflexivity pertain to theoretic analysis and empirical research but neglect the pedagogical elements in the transmission of such a practice. Any attempt to transmit a reflexive criminological practice requires a pedagogical corollary as pedagogy is central to the reproduction of the criminological field. The paper discusses a ‘craft-enterprise’ model for conceptualising the place and role of theory within criminology, the concept of ‘fictional reality’ for pointing us toward a useful pedagogical corollary, as well as the ‘criminological imagination’ as a meta-framework for situating pedagogical and theoretic practice.
Refreshments will be served.
