Biography
Andrea was born and raised in Morelia, Mexico, and moved to Ottawa to pursue her undergraduate degree at Carleton University. She started in the Math Honours program, and eventually realized that her true passion was in quantitative problem solving and analytical skills, so she decided to switch to the Economics program. The specialization in Economic Data Science opened on the second semester of her third year, and she decided to pursue it, and feels honoured to be the first graduating undergraduate with such specialization.
What will you pursue next?
Thanks to the distinguished academic level of the Economics program at Carleton, I had the opportunity to take part in an internship at CDW, a leading tech company in Canada and the US, where I was able to put to practice the abilities acquired for purposes of business intelligence and forecasting. I was honoured to be offered a full-time position to continue growing professionally in the data science path, in the tech company previously mentioned. I am looking forward to pursue my graduate studies in Econometrics and Data Science, the school to be determined. Particularly interested in expanding my understanding of data mining and statistical analysis towards machine learning.
What did you enjoy most about studying at Carleton?
Carleton University has not only provided me a unique opportunity to gain a complex understanding of my field, but also to develop a notable network of colleagues and friends who share interests and values with me, making the undergraduate a truly delightful journey!
