Overview: Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) is one of the partners selected by the federal government to deliver the Student Work-Integrated Learning Program (SWILP).  Working with employers and post-secondary education (PSE) institutions in the information and communications technology sector ICTC will administer wage subsidies to hire co-op students.

Available funding

  • Employers may be eligible to receive a wage subsidy of 50% (up to $5000) to hire a student and may be eligible to receive 70% (up to $7000) if they hire under-represented groups including women in STEM, Indigenous students, persons with disabilities, recent immigrants and first year students
  • Ontario employers may also be eligible for a tax credit of up to $3000 for the Co-operative Education Tax Credit
  • Employers receiving other federal funding to hire the student will not be eligible to also receive SWILP funding

Eligible Employers

  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) involved in the following target sectors: Intelligent retail, Fintech, Advanced manufacturing, or any identified high-growth sector such as Entertainment/Gaming, Connected transportation, Biotechnology, Cybersecurity, e-Health and Clean Tech

Eligible students

  • Full time student enrolled in a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) or business program at a Canadian PSE institution
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status
  • Must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations

How to Apply

  • Employers are welcome to post their co-op positions on Carleton University’s CUHire for students in eligible programs to apply.  (Note:  Approval of the wage subsidy must be secured before an offer is made to the student, if the position is dependent upon receipt of the subsidy).
