It is with great sadness the Faculty of Engineering and Design shares news of the recent passing of Elizabeth (Betty) Zahalan.
Betty was a cherished member of the Carleton community for more than 30 years, brightening the lives of many hundreds of students as Administrator for the School of Industrial Design from 1983-1995 and the Department of Electronics from 1995-2006.
Even after her retirement, Betty remained a vibrant and active presence within the Faculty, returning for countless short-term roles assisting both undergraduate and graduate students, her most recent concluding in spring 2023. Betty passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 9, 2024, following a brief illness.
She will be deeply missed throughout our community. Our sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to Betty’s family and loved ones.
