Congratulations to our own Pascale Roy-Léveillée who recently won Best Oral Presentation at the Ottawa-Carleton Student Northern Research Symposium (OCSNRS) held at the University of Ottawa on February 6th, 2014.

Pascale’s winning presentation discussed the internal topography of drained lake basins in the Old Crow Flats, northern Yukon.  These drained basins often have depressed margins surrounding a raised centre. Pascale’s results suggest that this topography is due to patterns of lacustrine sediment deposition in expanding lakes, translating in elevation differences once permafrost aggrades in the exposed lake bottom sediment.

The OCSNRS is an annual one-day symposium where Ottawa-Carleton students conducting northern research can present their work to their peers.   This year’s event was very successful with high quality talks and posters.

Next year, it will be Carleton’s turn to host this annual symposium, and we will be looking for students interesting in taking a leadership role… Stay tuned for more on this exciting opportunity next fall.
