Fall 2023-Winter2024
- MUSI 5002F: Research Methods in Music & Culture – Fall
-
- PROFESSOR: Anna Hoefnagels
- DESCRIPTION: Pathways toward articulating Indigenous aesthetics emerge from deep considerations of cultural epistemologies and ontologies of arts. Because this is an emergent area of study, few scholarly readings exist and as a result we will consider theory from a variety of sources. Together, we will develop new understandings of how to consider aesthetics. Connections to land and to story are key components of this seminar.
- METHOD OF EVALUATION: Student evaluation will be based on 1) numerous components of their individual research project (abstract, annotated bibliography, article discussion/facilitation, conference presentation, final paper); short presentations; attendance and participation in weekly class meetings
- READINGS: All readings will be available electronically through the MacOdrum Library catalogue
- MUSI MUSI 5017: Music and Globalization – Fall

Course sessions will include close and critical discussion of selected texts, audio-visual examples, and documentary films.
- METHOD OF EVALUATION: Class participation, reading reflections, term paper, final presentation.
