Jen McLachlen
Contract Instructor, Performance Instructor: Flute
Jen McLachlen is an Ottawa-born composer and flutist. She holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Ottawa, a Master of Music from Texas State University, a Doctorate of Musical Arts in flute performance and a PhD in Fine arts in composition, both from Texas Tech University.
Her mentors have included Lisa Garner, Adah Toland-Jones, Lise Germain, Robert Cram, Steven Gellman, Russell Riepe, Peter Fischer, and Mei-fang Lin.
She has participated in such festivals as the Iceland International Flute Festival, the International Festival of Contemporary Music of Chile, National Flute Association Conference, Canadian Flute Conference, Mary Jean Appledorn Festival of New Music, National Association of Composers USA Texas Conference, and Texas Society for Music Theory Conference, International Society for Improvised Music Conference, the College Music Society and Association for Technology in Music conference, and the Society of Composers Incorporated Conference.
She began lecturing at Carleton University in 2014, and currently teaches flute performance and a variety of theory courses.
