Kalle Mattson Wainio

Kalle Mattson Wainio is a Juno, Polaris Music Prize and Canadian Folk Music Award nominated singer-songwriter based in Ottawa, Canada. Since 2009 he has released four full-length albums and four EPs under his own name and with “Summersets” to both critical and commercial acclaim, supported by extensive touring across North America and Europe. His work has been covered by Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and NPR, with his music video for ‘Avalanche’ winning the 2016 Prism Prize. Since 2021 Kalle has taught at Carleton University as the Singer-Songwriter Ensemble Director, a Performance Instructor and as a Contract Instructor. He is currently enrolled in the M.A. in Music and Culture program where his research interests include songwriting pedagogy, popular musicology and music industries.
