Rebecca Cowal is a multi-faceted musician, educator, and emerging scholar who values integrated, holistic approaches to music education. She holds a Master of Arts in Music and Culture and a Bachelor of Music (Saxophone) from Carleton University. Rebecca has performed in Canada, Mexico, Ghana, and the United States, and as a saxophonist in the Ottawa Jazz Band, Parkdale Orchestra, Bytown Big Band, Glamour Profession, Raven Saxophone Quartet, and Carleton University’s Jazz, Roots, Fusion, Choral, and West African Rhythm Ensembles. Rebecca is passionate about sharing her musical expertise, both as an individual instructor to middle- and high- school students at de la Salle francophone arts school, as well as a classroom instructor in various contexts. Rebecca is a collaborative musician and tap dancer with the Ottawa Rhythm Initiative and a woodwind specialist with OrKidstra. She places equity and inclusion as central components to a healthy music classroom, and approaches music education through a student-first ethic.
