Anisman Lab Member Samantha Coates: Winning x 2!
Samantha Coates takes Gold at University of Toronto Invitational!
On Monday, September 21st, 5th-year veteran Samantha Coates and the men’s golf team competed at the University of Toronto Invitational at the Islington Golf Club in Etobicoke, ON.
As Carleton’s lone female representative at the Toronto Invitational, Samantha Coates (Kanata, ON) had an outstanding day at the Islington Golf Club as she completed a round of 79 which was good enough for a first-place tie with the University of Toronto’s Kelsey Fuchs. On a tough track, Coates performed very well in earning her first victory of 2015. Coates won the Carleton Invitational and the Queen’s Invitational back-to-back three years ago when she was in her 3rd year of her undergrad.
“It was cool to win it as an individual to show the bigger OUA schools that Carleton still is a great golf school with a growing golf program,” said Coates after her victory. “This was a much bigger and competitive field, with only a couple of teams missing, and it had definitely been a while since I won a tournament.”
“Part way through my round it started to get really slow on the golf course with a lot of waiting and I had to focus more. After a couple of bad holes I worked hard to hit good shots and make important putts to get myself back on track for a good score,” added Samantha.
She was also named TSN 1200’s Athlete of the Week. Congratulations, Samantha!
