Aditi Sankhe

Biography:

Hi! I’m Aditi Sankhe, but feel free to call me Didi or Diti. I live in Ottawa, but I’m originally from India – I have been here since I was 5 years old. I am currently in the MSc in Neuroscience program working under the supervision of Dr. Melissa Chee. I still don’t really know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know it will likely be in academia and definitely in neuroscience! I think my dream job would have lots of collaboration and lots of hands-on work (I love my experiments!).

I currently conduct research, specifically looking at populations of neurons implicated in feeding! My current project will be looking at the effect of fructose on the brain, and another project related to ghrelin and sexual behaviour in mice (with Dr. Alfonso Abizaid). I have volunteered in the Chee lab since the beginning of my second year as an undergraduate in the Neuroscience department and have been here with all the moves and floor changes.

In my spare time, I love running. I also volunteer with the Society for Neuroscience chapter in Ottawa. In terms of hobbies, I tend to come home and immediately game. Really into Battletech, Shadow of Mordor and some MTG right now.

Advice for 4th Year Undergrads:

4th year is a tough year, but you will get through it. You have the support of your PI/supervisor, instructors, friends and the department!
