What was one notable aspect about Carleton Neuroscience?
The Neuroscience Department at Carleton University is fairly small – making Carleton uniquely suited to foster a family-like atmosphere and lends to a hands on learning experience. This gives students the opportunity to have more access to the professors, which is key to learning and helps in acquiring volunteer positions in laboratories as well as references for graduate school. I was grateful to be given the opportunity to work in both Dr. Shawn Hayley’s lab after my first year of university and in Dr. Matthew Holahan’s lab in my fourth year for my honours thesis. These experiences strengthened my desire to continue a research career in neuroscience and apply for graduate school. I learned numerous valuable lab techniques, which was integral for my acceptance into the doctorate program at McGill University.
