Graduation season is upon us, and as Emily prepares to bid farewell to Carleton this spring, she reflects upon her transformative journey at NPSIA and the valuable experiences she gained along the way.

Throughout her time at NPSIA, Emily encountered numerous courses that broadened her horizons, but one class in particular stood out as her favorite: International Bargaining Negotiations with the esteemed professor, Fen Hampson. In this class, she delved into the world of diplomatic negotiations, learning the art of persuasion and compromise while navigate complex discussions and finding common ground with individuals from diverse backgrounds. These interactions fostered a deep appreciation for cultural nuances and allowed for the development of cross-cultural communication skills.

Emily discovered that classes which blended lectures with hands-on exercises allowed her to grasp complex concepts effectively and the practical skills integrated into the curriculum made the learning experience invaluable. She was grateful for the opportunity to explore a wide range of subjects through NPSIA’s extensive course offering.  From crafting memoranda to cabinet to conducting trade policy reviews, Emily credits NPSIA for helping her develop her technical writing, an invaluable skill in the world of international affairs.
