photo of Cati Coe and Isaac OdoomThe Department of Political Science is pleased to welcome two new faculty members, Dr. Cati Coe and Dr. Isaac Odoom. Both started at Carleton University on July 1, 2022. They will strengthen the research and teaching expertise of the Department of Political Science on many cutting edge fields, including transnational migration, the politics of care, the politics of development, African politics, and non-Western theories of International Relations.

Cati Coe is an expert on the politics of migration and care, which she has studied with a focus on African immigrant personal support workers in the United States. She joins us from Rutgers University, where she was a Professor of Anthropology. She is currently beginning a new project on how transnational migrants navigate national forms of social protection in later life. Dr. Coe will be teaching two courses in 2022-23: PSCI 4809B/5915B Ethnographic Research Methods (Fall 2022) and PSCI 4809D The Politics of Care (Winter 2023). View bio and publications.

Isaac Odoom is an expert on the politics of development in the Global South, with a particular focus on Africa. His research has focused on the role of new development actors (especially China), Chinese foreign policy in the Global South, South-South development cooperation, as well as non-Western theories of International Relations and international development. Dr. Odoom’s teaching in 2022-23 will include: PSCI 3100A Politics of Development in Africa (Fall 2022), PSCI 2102B Comparative Politics of the Global South (Winter 2023) and PSCI 4104A Development in the Global South – Theory and Practice (Winter 2023).
